A retrospective of more than 90 works by Murakami was on view from April 5 through July 13, 2008. It launched at the Brooklyn Museum June 1 and at selected stores worldwide on June 15.

In addition to the operation of the Louis Vuitton store within the exhibition, Louis Vuitton hosted the Brooklyn Ball on Thursday, April 3 celebrating the opening of MURAKAMI, a major mid-career survey exploring the accomplishment of Janpanese artist Takashi Murakami. Special creations by Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton, were auctioned during the dinner for donation to the Brooklyn Museum.
