Your Own Hermes Kelly

Find a new feature on the Hermes US web site, called Les Ailes d’Hermes, the wings of Hermes. The animated micro site allows you to discover and travel the world of Hermes. You learn about the origins of box calf, the complex coloring of their iconic scarves, you see a glove crafter work the smooth leather, there’s mini-games and much more. The part that transformed me back to being a 6 year old was I want it, I’ll have it feature. It allows you to pick between 8 different Kelly motifs, download it as a PDF, print it at home and assemble your own mini-Kelly. How fun. If it only wasn’t for me being entirely finger challenged when it comes to fine crafting. Paper is quite delicate, which I learned the hard way. On my first attempt I miserably failed to follow the primitive instructions, folding where I was supposed to cut and vice versa. Eventually, I got her done and the result is displayed above. Timeless Hermes Bags

In the economic recession, Hermes dose not offering anything on the runway that brought a new and wacky punch, but offering us a taste of refined style that they are known for in Fall 2008. Coats and jackets took precedence on the Paris runway, which were pulled together with oversized belts pulled tight at the waist. The color palette was monochromatic yet timeless. There was a sense of stability during the show, as the models gracefully made their way down the runway accessorized with knit caps and scarves. The handbags stayed true to Hermes, but added an urban chic touch with the reinterpreted Hermes Kelly worn as a messenger bag at the hip, named the Hermes Jypsiere. Many say Hermes played it safe, but it was more about being classic than safe to me. The Hermes Fall 2008 line is timeless, just as the brand itself.

My Dream Lindy

I am an aficionado for Hermes bag! Since the debut of Hermes Lindy, it has become a house favorite as it offers a more casual feel with every sophisticated touch Hermes is known for. The Lindy features a double sided compartment for ease of separation and use, along with a center that collapses in while being carried. Last week in Saks Vlad and I saw a woman wearing a casual sundress paired with a Graphite Lindy. Everything about her outfit and look was perfect, and the Lindy truly finished it off! While I meticulously pick which color is good for me, I still have a dream Lindy, my holy-grail of Lindy’s. The Hermes Crocodile Lindy is what I call 100% drool worthy. Matte crocodile from the house of Hermes is divine, as it ages it develops the perfect gloss. The Lindy above is graphite 30 Lindy in ultra-supple matte niloticus crocodile.

JCrew, What is it!

What do you think of Hermes? Classic style and elegance? Yet on the Paris runway, I was thinking that JCrew was there rather than the iconic Hermes. The Hermes Spring 2007 collection hit the boardwalk-like-runway of Paris and delivered a less-than-stellar line up of beachy wear, and casual kickbacks, along with tracksuits. Yikes. What I paid attention to closely were the bags of course, and these bags were collapsible Kelly Bags that were strapped together to look more like a large clutch than a bag. Upon first glance, I like the bag looking this way. Then it occurred to me that this bag is so impractical all tied up that it now officially has no use. Hermes’ Special Edition Veyron

Exciting news now! In a similar move to Lamborghini’s previous collaboration with Versace, Bugatti plans to revive a relationship between Emile Hermes and Ettore Bugatti that was initiated as far back as the 1920s by creating a Limited Edition Veyron. The new super sports car is suspected to have a more over-the-top interior with a lot of delicate stitching and embossed logos. The new Veyron is scheduled to be revealed at the Salon International de l’Automobile in Geneva from March 3rd to March 16th 2008. Expect the new project to be sold out very swiftly – also expect a very steep and unattainable price. We can only hope for a special bag compartment for the complementary croc Birkin!

Hermes Rare Crocodile HAC

 The rare dark red crocodile Hermes 45cm HAC was made in 1972. The bag was given to Christie’s to be auctioned, and was said to be sold for a reported $40,700. The price was not out of this world, as many Hermes items that are rare may go for much more. The Crocodylus porosus is an exotic staple of the house, highly sought after, highly stunning, and highly priced. Damned Appealing-Hermes Shoulder Birkin

Hermes’new designer Jean Paul Gaultier changes work — now you can actually get the bag over your shoulder.

Due to its shortened height, the bag seems as long as an eighteen wheeler semi! Like Luella with her Baby Gisele, the logic step to an already successful handbag was to adding a shoulder design and appeal to a wider audience. Among the large variety of carry-alls that we’ve seen, this new shoulder Birkin sure is in contention for the throne. So damned appealing!

The new “pumpkin orange” shade will go for ￡4,000 (~$7,500). Stores around the globe hesitated with the large orders for the bag, unsure about how the new low profile would appeal to the customer base. In addition, a limited production is running on these treasures as well. Hence, the new Hermes Shoulder Birkins are even scarcer than the legendary regular Birkins.

Bugatti Veyron Fbg

Yes, I know I am a dude! About a month ago, I still mad about the Hermes bag. However, one month later, I am fascinated by the luxury car manufacturer Bugatti. While the exquisite Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermes’ boasts the same 1001 hp quad-turbocharged 16 cylinder engine from the original Veyron, its distinct character manifests in the details.

The new Veyron derives its name from the historic Hermes’ headquarters on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honor?, in the heart of Paris’ eighth arrondissement. It sports eight-spoked wheels in polished aluminum, central butterfly wheel locks branded with the prominent letter ‘H’, and air vents around the rims aim to reproduce the characteristic appearance of traidtional Hermes’ saddle-stitching. The horseshoe radiator grille, and the lateral ventilation grilles flank it, are made from lightweight alloys with a design of interlocking H’s which evoke the Hermes’ signature. The inner surfaces of the Veyron Fbg are designed and sheathed in bull calfskin at the Hermes’ workshops in Paris by the same mastered hands that give us purse fetishists the coveted Birkin and Kelly bags.

The center console features a special compartment for the Hermes’ Globetrotter agenda; the leather-lined trunk holds a specially-fitted “Toile H” leather case. With a price tag of 1.55 million Euros (excluding taxes), the Veyron Fbg par Hermes’ will remain an unattainable subject of lust for most of us. The lucky, selected few will take their deliveries towards the end of this year. What an absolutely astonishing, most awesome and desirable vehicle, for car and bag fetishists alike.

Imagine you are walking along the street with a little coin bag. You walk into the store feeling completely out of place. ‘My shoes are merely designer brand not premium designer, my shirt is from Banana Republic not off the runway, my bag is not a Hermes’, you think to yourself. Peering into the glass counter you encounter the perfect accessory to walk away with, a beaver coin purse. Must be about $300 you think to yourself, which of course is expensive, but hey, it is Hermes. You ask the SA with conviction about the price but in your mind know you can afford it. Right? While the Hermes Ostrich Hedgehog and Crocodile Tortoise Coinbags are the most adorable coin bags ever, the price is even more un-affordable in my world right now. Thanks to billbill for the pictures and to wongnumber for the price estimations. The estimation for the snail is around $852, though possibly upwards of $2163 seeing that it is croc. The adorable ostrich hedgehog will be similarly priced since it is also exotic.
