Hermes Lilanga Square Designed by Lilanga Square

This Hermes Lilanga Square is crystallized from the cooperation of Pierre-Alexis Dumas the Hermes Art Director and Jean Pigozzi the African contemporary artwork collector. I am surprised to find that actually Jean has participated into the art making process while he is supposed to discover and conserve it. That is not the point, however. Pierre-Alexis Dumas realizes the amazing power of African art and becomes interested in the behind culture and imagination. This silk twill scarf is actually an inspiration from an oil painting of the African artist George Lilanga, who is of the Makonde tribe.  The Makonda art lavished with humor and cartoon conscious tries to illustrate a mysterious world that indicates not only moral and culture value but also daily corporate life.

French high-end luxury designer house Hermès now offers a very chic two-wheeled alternative to those ladies who want to take their love for fine leather craftsmanship to the winding coast trails of Saint-Tropez on the early Sunday morning croissant run.

Hermès collaborated with dutch bicycle manufacturer Batavus and adorned an Old Dutch with meticulously stitched leather accents on saddle, handle bar grips, as well as the frame’s two main down tubes. The 3-speed bike maintains its old original black finish while the leather accents play a significant role in bumping up Batavus’ original $799 price tag. No word whether the Ladies Dutch Bent version comes in a male variety with straight tube.

Hermes’ Special Edition Veyron

Exciting news now! In a similar move to Lamborghini’s previous collaboration with Versace, Bugatti plans to revive a relationship between Emile Hermes and Ettore Bugatti that was initiated as far back as the 1920s by creating a Limited Edition Veyron. The new super sports car is suspected to have a more over-the-top interior with a lot of delicate stitching and embossed logos. The new Veyron is scheduled to be revealed at the Salon International de l’Automobile in Geneva from March 3rd to March 16th 2008. Expect the new project to be sold out very swiftly – also expect a very steep and unattainable price. We can only hope for a special bag compartment for the complementary croc Birkin!

The center console features a special compartment for the Hermes’ Globetrotter agenda; the leather-lined trunk holds a specially-fitted “Toile H” leather case. With a price tag of 1.55 million Euros (excluding taxes), the Veyron Fbg par Hermes’ will remain an unattainable subject of lust for most of us. The lucky, selected few will take their deliveries towards the end of this year. What an absolutely astonishing, most awesome and desirable vehicle, for car and bag fetishists alike.

The Process of Making a Hermes Scarf

Hermes is the world’s foremost seller of quality silk scarves. Over the years, women who wear it have ranged from royalty such as Queen Elizabeth and Princess Grace to trendsetters Madonna and Sarah Jessica Parker. However, do you know how an Hermes scarf is made?

From an artist’s sketchpad to the final inspection can take as long as two years and include as many as 40 artisans. The following seven steps must be passed, otherwise scarves are destroyed.

Step one: Design

Based on the theme of the year’s spring/summer and fall/winter collections, the designers and artists research and create sketches. You know every Hermes scarf is a story. So the design must be fine-tuned, which may take form six months to a year.
Step two: Engraving
After the design is printed, the layout is sent to an engraver. He divides the design into the individual pates.
Step three: Color selection
The printer chooses the colors from more than 75,000 colors and then does color trials submitted to an inspection team in Paris.
Step four: Printing
The Brazilian silk is spread out on heated tables 150 meters long for printing. After scraping, and hour of drying time and cleaning the table, another color is applied.
Step five: Finishing
The scarves go through a grooming process, which includes de-gumming and rinses to ensure color luminosity, durability and texture. The scarf is inspected again.
Step six: Hem-stitching
The hems are rolled and stitched by hand, which takes around 40 minutes.
Step seven: Final inspection
The scarf is inspected for the last time. It is folded, wrapped in acid-free paper and placed in the signature orange box.
